The 'Rough Riders' was the name given to the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry, a regiment raised specifically to fight in the Spanish-American War. The unit distiguished itself in the fighting on Cuba, notably at the Battle of San Juan Hill where it was commanded by future US President Theodore Roosevelt.
